This 95mm Circular Black Mist Filter is custom designed to be used with the Tilta Mirage Matte Box.

This filter is a type of diffusion filter that reduces contrast and produces a subtle glow around light sources, while limiting overall softness and retaining contrast in the shadows.

This creates a soft visual atmosphere while still retaining sharpness and more detail in the shadows than a standard Mist filter.

These filters produce accurate colors without reducing sharpness and feature a Double Sided 12 Layer Coating which protects the filter from scratches.

A balanced diffusion filter at a great price

I own a number of different diffusion filters- screw on Tiffen Black ProMist filters in 1/4 and 1/2, 4x5.65 inch Formatt-Hitech Black Supermist filters in 1/8 and 1/4 and now the Vaxis 95mm Black Mist filters in 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2. They all have different looks of course, but similar to the Tiffen filters, the Vaxis options offer a really balanced performance that does not detract from the image in overcast scenes for example (whereas even the weaker Formatt-Hitech may wash out a bit, even if it performs in a very pleasing way in interiors) but with a slightly sharper rolloff to the halation versus the Tiffen, which is great as an all-round option. The form factor is convenient, the weight very low, the price excellent (allowing you to get multiple strengths to keep your look consistent across focal lengths and get creative) and I have noticed no degradation to the image whatsoever.. Highly recommended, I would rarely shoot a project without these now, the 1/8 practically lives inside my TIlta Mirage and the 1/4 comes out for narrative work. They even come in small thin labelled pouches, which is great for putting them in a case, bag or pocket.
